IMPACT STORY

As I complete nearly one year with Sarvahitey, I am thankful to the founders and volunteers alike for treating me as one of them - despite being a senior citizen, I have not felt like an odd man out. It has been an enriching experience, which I am sure must have been so with others. Apart from teaching under-privileged children, interacting with the general public during cleanliness drives was very rejuvenating. Unfortunately, I was unable to participate in any clothes donation activity or educative outing for children.

The volume of uneducated and under educated population is so large that government schemes alone cannot cater to them. Moreover, having been with the government for thirty years, I have learnt that the government machinery has its own bureaucratic limitations. Consequently, the field is open for the voluntary groups and individuals to ameliorate the lot of the downtrodden. I, therefore, entreat the young volunteers not to treat their tenure with Sarvahitey only as forum to get a certificate, but to make social service activities an integral part of their lives, dividing their time between studies, career and social work. Their inputs are vitally important for the nation.
